Club Med Tinley Manor: What's Opening on the Dolphin Coast in 2026

Club Med opens at Tinley Manor on 4 July 2026 — South Africa's first Club Med resort, 15 minutes from Zinkwazi Beach on the Dolphin Coast.

    Published

The KwaZulu-Natal Dolphin Coast has a new landmark. Club Med Tinley Manor opens 4 July 2026. South Africa's first Club Med resort and a R2 billion vote of confidence in this stretch of coastline. For a region that has long been overshadowed by Durban and the Cape, that kind of international investment changes the conversation. It puts the Dolphin Coast on the radar of visitors who might never have considered it.

For Zinkwazi Beach, 15 to 20 minutes north, the timing could not be better. International guests arriving at Club Med will have a premium resort experience waiting for them. When they want to see what real coastal KwaZulu-Natal life looks like, Zinkwazi is right there. The lagoon, the fish eagles, the village, the Ski Boat Club on a Thursday evening. All of it within easy reach of a world-class resort, and all of it genuinely different from anything inside the gates.

What is Club Med Tinley Manor?

Club Med is a French all-inclusive resort brand operating more than 60 properties worldwide. Club Med Tinley Manor is its first resort in South Africa: a R2 billion development on the beachfront at Tinley Manor, KwaZulu-Natal, approximately 15 to 20 minutes south of Zinkwazi on the Dolphin Coast.

The resort opening on 4 July 2026 is the conclusion of a development that has been years in the making. According to the official Club Med South Africa factsheet, the property is positioned as a Beach and Safari resort, combining direct Indian Ocean beach access with a safari component at the affiliated Vikela Safari Lodge, and excursions across the broader KZN region.

What Club Med Tinley will offer

The resort operates on the all-inclusive model: accommodation, meals, drinks, activities and entertainment included in a single price. Three accommodation tiers are available: Superior, Deluxe, and the Exclusive Collection Space: a premium tier with suites from 70 to 180 square metres, a dedicated concierge, exclusive pool, and champagne from 6pm.

The activity offering is substantial. Club Med Tinley is home to the brand's first surf school, located on the Dolphin Coast. The official factsheet confirms surfing lessons for all levels from age 4, alongside kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, padel, tennis, flying trapeze, yoga, archery, golf, and a programme for children from age 4 through the Club Med Mini and Junior Clubs.

Three pools serve different guests: the main L-shaped pool faces the ocean, the family pool sits adjacent to the children's club and trapeze, and the adults-only Zen pool is lined with daybeds and four-poster sun loungers.

The spa, Club Med Spa by Sothys and Terres d'Afrique, offers treatments combining French skincare technology with African botanical traditions.

Excursions from the resort include the Safari Big 5 in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, dolphin and whale encounters, Zulu cultural experiences, and a street art and food tour of Durban.

"South Africa's first Club Med. On the Dolphin Coast. Opening 4 July 2026. Whatever you think about large resorts, this one lands in a place that deserves to be noticed."

What this means for Zinkwazi Beach

Zinkwazi is 15 to 20 minutes north of Club Med Tinley Manor. That proximity is an opportunity.

Club Med's arrival raises awareness of the whole Dolphin Coast. International visitors booking the resort will find themselves within easy reach of a stretch of coastline that most of them have never heard of. Some of them will want to explore it. The lagoon, the village, the fishing charters, Raffia on a Friday evening. Things that no all-inclusive programme can replicate because they exist outside the gates.

For visitors who book Club Med and want a day away from the structured programme, Zinkwazi offers exactly that: a real place to spend the morning. And for those researching the area before they book, finding that there is an established coastal village with self-catering options, local restaurants and its own character just up the coast is the kind of discovery that turns a resort trip into something more.

The two experiences are complementary. A week in the area could reasonably include both.

What to do in the area

The Dolphin Coast stretching between Tinley Manor and Zinkwazi has more than one resort's worth of activity. Tinley Manor, Blythedale and Darnall covers the immediate coastal context. Things to do in Zinkwazi Beach covers the village in detail. For those visiting the area and considering something other than an all-inclusive stay, accommodation near Club Med Tinley Manor covers the self-catering options within 15 to 20 minutes.
